Recording Applications

- Outcome of the application
Consequences of Non-Compliance with Obligations
If you do not apply sufficiently, sanctions may follow:
- Warning: For a first violation often a warning
- 25% Reduction: For limited effort
- 50% Reduction: For repeated violations
- Termination of Benefit: For persistent non-cooperation
Temporary Exemption from Application Obligation
In some cases, you may be (temporarily) exempted:
- Serious health problems
- Responsibilities as a carer
- Following education (with approval)
- Starting your own business (with permission)
How Many Applications are Mandatory?
Generally 1 per week, but this may vary depending on your personal situation and the labour market in Leiden. Quality of applications is also important.
Am I Obliged to Accept Every Job?
At the beginning, you may search for work that matches your background. After some time, the definition of 'suitable work' broadens, including jobs below your level.
What if I Become Ill During My WW Period?
Report illness immediately to the UWV. You will then receive temporary exemption from the application obligation.
Frequently Asked Questions about WW in Leiden
How many applications do I need to do to meet the obligation?
The UWV expects on average 4 applications per 4 weeks (about 1 per week), but this depends on your situation and the local labour market. Quality over quantity: a well-substantiated application can be worth more than several quick applications. Register everything in your Work Folder on werk.nl and contact your UWV contact person in Leiden with questions.
What happens if I refuse a suitable job?
Refusing a job that the UWV considers suitable may lead to sanctions. In the early stage of your WW period, the job must match your experience and education. Later, this is interpreted more broadly. Sanctions range from a 25% to 50% reduction in your benefit, or even full termination. Consult the UWV if in doubt.
How do I correctly record my applications in the Work Folder?
Go to werk.nl, log in to your Work Folder and add details per application such as the date, company name, position, application method (e.g. email or online) and the outcome (e.g. rejection or invitation). Keep proofs such as emails. The UWV checks this data, so keep your Work Folder up to date.
Can I get an exemption if I am a carer?
Yes, as a carer you may be eligible for (temporary) exemption from the application obligation. You must apply for this with the UWV and substantiate it with proof of your situation. Contact the UWV in Leiden for specific guidelines.
